As with most artists, Dale works in multiple media but prefers colored pencil for the level of detail she can achieve over working with brushes in oils and acrylics. Dale, and her husband Don, are avid Koi Keepers, water gardeners, chicken keepers, and dog lovers, so it comes as no surprise that her artistic subjects can be seen in real life right in their own backyard.
After being persuaded to produce drawings of favorite koi for a few friends, Dale and Don turned her art into a small business, Whaley’s Fish Lips, that features Dale’s Koi work in fine art, reproductions, and decorative items. Her work can be found in Koi enthusiast homes throughout the country and has been featured in Koi USA, an internationally recognized trade journal for the Koi professional and hobbyist.
Dale has retired from that business and produces new art regularly and doesn’t concentrate on the Koi subjects as much. Her new drawings include landscapes, dogs, chickens and an occasional new Koi drawing which can be seen in the gallery section of this site.
Don is also branching out some with his photography. So look for a few photos included in the gallery.
